Looking at the Digital Parent I want to look at the tools that parents can use that will compliment how technology is being used in schools.
On such tool is Class Dojo.
As a teacher I have used Class Dojo to great effect across my classes and its impact is great. It is a simple tool that allows the user to programme in positive and negative behaviours and keep a track on what has been awarded and what areas need attention. The app is fully customisable and students really engage in using it.
So as a parent how can I use it?
Well Class Dojo has a built in parent section that allows the parent to see how their child is doing in school, pilule
But what about actually using it as a parent to help away from school? I have started using it with my 5 year old, we have always used a rewards board with stickers etc, but as with most things it gets outdated. This week we set up a class for just Max and he is trying really hard to earn the positive points. He has access to his page on an iPad and he can see clearly what he does well and what he needs to work on. If his school then start using this he will get it straight away.
Give it a go, anything that helps a little at home has got to be a good thing.
